MadhoRam Buildings

Our family stayed at MadhoRam Buildings for close to 50 years.
Every evening, children played a game of cricket or football.
After the game, all the boys sat together for some chit-chat, before going home.
That ground still exists, and the games still go on.
Another generation......

Hindi Classes at SJA

At St. Joseph's Academy, Dehradun, we were prescribed good hindi books and read some famous hindi poets. A good one I remember is Ramdhari Singh Dinkar. Our teachers Chettri Sir and Chaturvedi Sir were outstanding. Chaturvedi's sir knowledge of hockey was also outstanding......but thereby hangs another tale. I'm sure that one of my classmates ( 1966-1975) would remember and send their comments.

The St.Joseph's vs St Mary's football matches..

Its been 33 years since I bid adieu to St. Joseph's Academy, Dehradun.
Since the days when a walk on Rajpur Road was incomplete without a dekho of the school.
When the football matches with St.Mary's, Meerut or a Mussoorie school were more exciting than the Russia-Netherlands Euro 2008 quarter final match played today early morning.
When the cries of "Academy, Academy............" and the celeberations off the field matched the ones on the IPL cricket matches, in excitement, if not in glamour.
I wonder who first coined these lines........"Who needs Bournvita - St. Mareeeeeeeeeez", when the football matches went into extended time.
Those were the times, those were the days...................

Would like to know how the school & students are doing now. How was the recent ISC & ICSE 2008 result? Was our school result among the best in Dehradun / if not in Northern India ?

Looking forward to some news from fellow Alumni or current students and teachers.
